The Book Thief ~ Available On Blu-Ray And DVD March 11, 2014 ~ #Giveaway

Posted by

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s newest release, The Book Thief, is set for release, on Blu-Ray and DVD, on March 11, 2014!

Based on the beloved best-selling book comes an “extremely moving” (Leonard Maltin, Indiewire) story of a girl who transforms the lives of those around her during World War II, Germany.  When her mother can no longer care for her, Liesel (Sophie Nélisse) is adopted by a German couple (OSCAR® Winner Geoffrey Rush* and OSCAR® Nominee Emily Watson**).  Although she arrives illiterate, Liesel is encouraged to learn to read by her adoptive father.  When the couple then takes in Max (Ben Schnetzer), a Jew hiding from Hitler’s army, Liesel befriends him.  Ultimately, words and imagination provide the friends with an escape from the events unfolding around them in this extraordinary, acclaimed film directed by Brian Percival (Downton Abbey).

To celebrate the March 11th Blu-ray and DVD release of The Book Thief, the film adaptation of Markus Zusak’s bestselling novel starring Sophie Nelisse and Geoffrey Rush, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment took a look at some of the best young adult literature that has made the move to the silver screen in recent years:

Harry Potter

The mother of all young adult book franchises also became one of the highest-earning movie franchises in history. The films have grossed over $7.7 billion worldwide and launched the careers of young acting phenoms Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.

The Hunger Games

America’s reigning sweetheart, Jennifer Lawrence, was already an Oscar-nominee before landing the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in the adaptation of the outrageously popular book trilogy by Suzanne Collins, but the film’s success made her an international superstar.

The Twilight Saga

It’s hard to imagine a world where teens didn’t erupt in fits of excitement at the mere mention of Robert Pattinson or Taylor Lautner, but before the 2008 adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s tale of supernatural young love hit theaters, both were relatively unknown.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians

The first two novels in Rick Riordan’s series, The Lightning Thief and Sea of Monsters have been made into highly successful adventure films, blending elements of classical mythology and the modern world. In they process, they introduced the world to superb young leading man Logan Lerman, who also starred in the big screen adaptation of young adult classic The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

All eyes are on the first film from Veronica Roth’s popular book series, as it heads to theaters in 2014, with high expectations for it to be the next big teen phenomenon. The film stars young ingénue Shailene Woodley (who previously has starred in “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” and The Descendants) alongside Oscar-winner Kate Winslet.

See the pages of The Book Thief come to life when it heads to Blu-ray and DVD on March 11th!

Nope I didn’t watch. I don’t like awards shows, and I don’t watch any of them. I like Ellen, but she’s not enough of a draw to make me sit through an awards show.

  25. March 8, 2014

  35. March 7, 2014

    Susan H

I watch the Oscars every year… It’s like my high holy night. I really didn’t think Ellen did a good job. The hosting was kind of stale, no cute mashup of movies monologues / funny intro, just a lot of name dropping.

  36. March 7, 2014

    Brenda Witherspoon-Bedard

I didnt watch it – had to work

  37. March 7, 2014

    Florence C

I watched the Oscars and enjoyed the show. Ellen did a fabulous job. Long show and the pizza made me hungry. I loved the twitter picture.

  38. March 7, 2014

    Jenness M

I watched it. I thought Ellen was a but dull.

  39. March 7, 2014

    Maegan Morin

I watched it for the sole purpose of seeing if Frozen would take the awards they were nominated for (of course they did). I was, however, very disappointed with Idina Menzels performance. There were just to many parts that were pitchy and she was shaking so much so I know its just because she was crazy upset or nervous but I was just so disappointed.

  40. March 7, 2014

I only caught a glimpse of it as I was working.

  41. March 7, 2014

    Anne Taylor

I did watch the Academy Awards and I enjoyed Ellen but not as much as I enjoyed her hosting the first time. It was a bit slow at times!

  42. March 7, 2014

I only watched the Red Carpet, and then the highlights the next day – it’s too long of a show!

  43. March 7, 2014

Yes I did watch it and I thought the pizza delivery was kind of funny but not Ellen’s transgendered jokes.

  44. March 6, 2014

    Henry C.

I watched it. Had a good laugh over John Travolta’s mangling of Idina Menzel’s name

  45. March 6, 2014

Yes i did – i enjoyed it this year – i love seeing all the stars and what they are wearing. Ellen did a great job as host!

  46. March 6, 2014

    carole b.

Watched it, loved it! Ellen is the best host! So funny!

  47. March 6, 2014

I didn’t watch it this year, because it just doesn’t interest me anymore. It always goes way over time. I read, instead. :o)

  48. March 6, 2014

Watched it, but didn’t think it was that great. Was not impressed at all with Ellen, especially handing out pizza. Time for a new host.

  49. March 6, 2014

I didn’t watch the Academy Awards this year. I had the sort of migraine that keeps the tv OFF.

  50. March 6, 2014

    Julie G

I did watch the Academy Awards, but really did not enjoy Ellen. The gowns were very classic this year and I enjoyed some of the acceptance speeches, but Ellen was a real bomb for me.
