A hot summer’s day and a cold, frosty beer, or refreshing cocktail, like a marvelous Margarita, go together so well, don’t they?
I love to sip on one of my favourite beers, ciders, or wine coolers, whether I’m by the pool, by the lake, or in the backyard.
One beverage I never really enjoyed at home, until now, was a slushy cocktail. I usually reserve drinking cocktails, like Margarita’s, for when I enjoy a dinner out at a restaurant.
That changed this summer though, when my partner decided he was going to come up with his own homemade Margarita cocktail for us to enjoy.
And enjoy we have – a few times!
In fact, I enjoy this recipe so much, I asked him to share it here on the blog.
As you will see, it’s quick and easy to make your own Marvelous Margarita – whatever way you like it!
My personal preference? Slushy!
I must admit, it was fun being a taste-tester for this post!
Cheers!
Marvelous Margarita Recipe
Here’s my quick and easy recipe for a great homemade Marvelous Margarita. The recipe will make two normal sized drinks or one large drink like in the pictures below. You can make it neat, add ice, or make a slushy!
Whatever you prefer, this is what you’ll need.
Ingredients:
- 3 Ounces of Tequila
- 2 Ounces of Lime Juice
- ¾ Ounces of Cointreau
- 1 ounce of Simple Syrup
- 2 Tablespoons of Sugar
- 2 Tablespoon of large Sea Salt or Kosher Salt
- Fresh Limes for garnish
- Ice
Simple syrup:
Using a 1:1 ratio of sugar and water (1 cup of water and sugar will make enough for a few drinks), heat ingredients until liquid is clear (do not boil). Refrigerate.
In a shallow plate, mix the coarse sea salt and sugar together. In another shallow plate, add roughly an ounce of lime juice.
Fresh Lime for garnishment.
If you choose to make a slushy Margarita, combine 3 ounces of Tequila, 2 ounces of Lime Juice, 1 ounce of Simple Syrup, and 3/4 of an ounce of Cointreau. Add roughly 500 – 750ml of ice cubes and blend in blender until you reach your preferred consistency. Have a glass ready. Dip the rim of the glass in lime juice. Rotate the rim in the sugar and salt mixture. Pour the drink mix into your glass and garnish with 1 or 2 slices of lime.
Here’s a short video showing you how to make a Marvelous Margarita with ice cubes.
In this case, fill the cocktail shaker with ice and then add 3 ounces of Tequila, 2 ounces of Lime Juice, 1 ounce of Simple Syrup, and 3/4 of an ounce of Cointreau. Shake the mixture for roughly 30 seconds (condensation will start to form on the cocktail shaker).
Have a glass ready. Dip the rim of the glass in lime juice. Rotate the rim in the sugar and salt mixture. Add ice and then pour the drink. Garnish with 1 or 2 slices of lime.
Either version is delicious and goes down like water on a hot day – be careful, they do pack a mean punch!
Cheers and please drink responsibly!
