The Drake. You can’t live in the GTA without having heard of this iconic hotel. The Drake Hotel is known as a “hotbed for culture” in the heart of downtown Toronto. Although I’ve often heard of The Drake mentioned as a popular spot to see some great live music, there is so much more to this landmark than just music. Here you’ll also find comedy acts, art tours, film fests and….a General Store.
Yes, to my surprise, I recently found out that The Drake has their own “Drake General Store”. In fact, they don’t just have one General Store…they’ve got 3 in the Toronto area.
“Since opening our doors in 2008, we’ve played with the notion of taking the traditional hotel gift shop and re-imagining it in a contemporary and varied urban context. By capturing inspiration from the classic general store, the museum shop and the flea market stand, we’ve worked really hard to create unique destinations for classic and modern goods and goodies. Each of our stores are filled with a sense of whimsy and nostalgia, which caters to the sensible and the not so sensible; travelers and neighbours alike.”
Take a quick peek at some of the photos on the Drake General Store website and you’ll see a store full of all kinds of wonderful unique gifts and goodies. You’ll find “Canadiana” merchandise, Toys, Housewares, jewellery, clothing for the whole family, and so much more. I wish we had a Drake General Store here in Ottawa. It’s the kind of store I could spend hours browsing in.
