Purchasing a new car can be a very exciting, yet daunting, task. Purchasing a used vehicle can be even more overwhelming. There’s so much to think about when buying a car. Lucky for me, the first used car I ever owned was a 1970’s orange Ford Maverick. It was a gift from my Aunt who no longer wanted it. She gave it to me in the early 1990’s, and she had only driven it approximately 50,000 miles (yes, miles…it was produced in the early 70’s after all) by the time I started driving it. What a great old vintage car it was…and I did not appreciate it at the time. I ended up selling it for a measly few hundred dollars a couple of years later when I decided I wanted a brand new car. Arrrrrrgh! One of the dumbest things I’ve ever done! I still regret it to this day. Especially now that I’m more aware of the value of vintage cars, thanks to my boyfriend.
There’s something about spring that gets the engines revving in guys who are true car lovers. I’m talking about those who are obsessed with cars, and everything to do with cars. You know, the car fanatics who can name EVERY car part contained within a car. The car fanatics who can name the make, model, AND give you the specs of the car that is on the road a half mile ahead of you – when the rest of us can barely make out the colour of the car from that distance!
Trust me, I know car fanatics well. My boyfriend is a car fanatic, and so is his son. He and X-Man would live, eat and breathe Muscle Cars if they could. Even at the tender age of 8, X-Man knows cars so well that, last summer at a local fair, X-man pointed out to me that a ride we were lined up for had “two drive shafts” on it. Huh? What child notices that an amusement ride has two drive shafts on it? As an adult, I couldn’t even tell you what the heck a drive shaft looks like, nevermind finding two on an amusement park ride. You could hear parents around me chuckling after he said that. X-Man made his father very proud that day, lol. Like father, like son.
With spring just around the corner, I’m noticing my boyfriend is coming down with some severe symptoms of “Muscle Car Spring Fever” once again.
So…I want to know…
Does your man suffer from “Muscle Car Spring Fever”? Here are the symptoms:
-
Constant urge to watch Muscle Car YouTube videos on the computer
-
Unusual charges appearing on credit cards for MuscleCarApparel.com
-
Frequent opening of windows – not to let in fresh spring air – to hear the “sweet sounds” of muscle cars on neighbourhood streets
-
Sudden stockpiling of cleaning products and chamois
-
Increase in terms like “Muscle Car Auto Shows” showing up in computer browsing history
So, as usually happens at this time of year, we got into a conversation about muscle cars and about how my boyfriend has recently been eyeballing his dream car, a Ford Shelby GT 500. I’ve definitely heard about this beautiful muscle car before, but I wanted to see what they looked like for myself. So we grabbed a drink and sat down to search the internet for Shelby GT 500s.
Turns out, there are a lot of sites on the internet for finding used cars for sale (in addition to the big name car “dealer”sites). If I were truly in the market right now for a used car, these sites would make my search so much easier than it used to be. Our search turned up a site I hadn’t seen before called Localmart , where we found over 30 different Shelby GT 500s available for sale. Gulp! That’s quite a selection. You can just imagine how all those Shelby GT 500s were pushing my boyfriend’s Muscle Car Spring Fever into overdrive!
While my boyfriend was busy drooling over all listings of his dream car, I noticed that you can buy and sell just about anything on this site. Looks like just the thing to help me with what I will soon be suffering from – “Spring Cleaning Fever”. Time to start purging! After seeing some of the prices sellers want for the Shelby GT 500s, I think it’s time to list some things for sale…if my boyfriend wants any hope of being able to afford that Shelby GT 500 one day!
Has your man got Muscle Car Spring Fever? What is his (or your) dream car?
