The Amazing Kreskin – Still Amazing Audiences After All These Years

September 5, 2018 by Sandy

The Amazing Kreskin Still Amazing

Our philosophy here at Canadian Blog House is “you’ll never know if you don’t ask”…and so we asked…for an interview with The Amazing Kreskin…and he said yes! All opinions are our own.

The Amazing Kreskin – Still Amazing Audiences After All These Years

Yes, my friends, The Amazing Kreskin is still around, and he’s still amazing audiences worldwide with his incredible ability to read people’s minds.

But don’t call him a psychic. The Amazing Kreskin is a mentalist.

So what’s the difference?

I recently had the chance to find out during a 40-minute chat with this pop culture legend.

Interviewing The Amazing Kreskin was…ahem…amazing in every sense of the word.

You don’t make it to 83-years-young without having a mind filled with incredible stories – especially when you’ve had an (almost) equally long career.

But don’t call it a career. To The Amazing Kreskin, it’s been more like an adventure.

After hearing just a few of his captivating stories, I can certainly understand why he feels this way.

Kreskin has made dozens of appearances on shows such as The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, The Late Show With David Letterman, and more recently, appearances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, like this one…

If You Could Read My Mind

It was a little nerve-wracking knowing I was about to interview this man (you’ll find the interview at the bottom of this article) who I remembered watching on television years ago when I was just a kid. The man who could read people’s minds!

Would he be able to read mine? I don’t know but – just in case – before I picked up the phone, I filled my mind with thoughts of rainbows and lollipops.

Well…not really but, I was a little apprehensive about what Kreskin might discover lurking deep in my head.

Turns out, The Amazing Kreskin is all about reading people’s minds in person, not over the phone.

Although I must admit, I’m a little suspicious.

You see, The Amazing Kreskin was so full of stories, and is such a fabulous storyteller that, even after 40 minutes on the phone with him, I never got around to asking him most of the questions I had prepared for him.

The strange thing is…he ended up answering many of my questions – without being asked!

I think Kreskin knew more about me than he was letting on.

The Amazing World Of Kreskin

We touched on many topics during our chat, including his television series, The Amazing World of Kreskin, which aired here in Canada for 5 1/2 years.

What may surprise you is that Kreskin’s show was filmed right here in Ottawa – at the CJOH studios! During its first year, The Amazing World of Kreskin was the 2nd highest rated show in Canada!

In my interview, Kreskin shares many other fascinating stories including…

  • the shocking number of miles he’s flown taking his show around the world
  • his love of board games and the upcoming launch of the new modernized version of his 60’s board game “Kreskin ESP”
  • the loss of “family time” and “neighbourhoods”
  • his 88 appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson – and why Johnny Carson never forgave NBC
  • his weekly flight schedule between Ottawa and New Jersey while filming The Amazing World of Kreskin
  • the famous comedian who gave Kreskin his stage name
  • who called him 90% amazing…and who called him 92% amazing
  • what Kreskin did to inspire Johnny Carson to create a famous Tonight Show character after him
  • who advised Kreskin to call himself  “a sensitive” rather than a mentalist
  • his thoughts on privacy and how our privacy is slowly being eroded
  • a teaser about an upcoming announcement – something special – one of the most exciting things he’s ever announced

Humour, Integrity And Being Authentic

The Amazing Kreskin is an incredibly engaging man. I was delightfully surprised by Kreskin’s witty banter and fabulous sense of humour. I loved his philosophy on society’s disappearing sense of humour…

Kreskin, who is an avid animal lover like me, really tickled my funny bone with this quote of his…

But it was these words from The Amazing Kreskin that really made my day…

“You have a very contagiously refreshing voice that makes people very, very comfortable and that’s one of the priceless gifts of broadcasting – the voice – and I compliment you on it because you’re going to soar on that, and that, you can’t buy anywhere. That’s a natural.”

And so I will leave you with this…The Amazing Kreskin’s philosophy of broadcasting and communications…

“To be continued…”

Never Tamper With The Show

***You’ll note some technical difficulties with the phone line during this conversation – especially at the beginning of our phone call.

In the wise words of The Amazing Kreskin – “Never tamper with the show, never edit!”.

As Kreskin says “The great appeal of Carson and Fallon is that mistakes happen. You run with the mistakes. You make something out of them.”

In the spirit of integrity, and being authentic, I give you my unedited interview with this legend.

You’re still amazing, Kreskin…and may you be amazing for many more years to come!

And so, my friends, grab your favourite beverage, sit back, relax, turn up the volume, and be amazed…
