Learning your ABC’s just became a little more fun thanks to the brand new interactive app from Veggietales: Bob and Larry’s ABC’s.
Bob and Larry’s ABC’s is an interactive story book that helps young children learn their ABCs. Just launched on November 15th, Bob and Larry’s ABC’s is a whimsical story narrated by Larry the Cucumber, and features playful, colourful animations, sounds, and even 3-D effects. This Veggietales app is fully interactive and educational.
We had a chance to try out Bob and Larry’s ABC’s app this past weekend using my iPad. The minute I turned on Bob and Larry’s ABC’s, X-man was over by my side in no time wondering what the cute voices and sounds were coming from my iPad. It takes a lot to distract X-man from his LEGO, but Bob and Larry’s ABC’s managed to capture his attention.
We sat together as Larry the Cucumber narrated the interactive story. We watched as characters jumped, bobbed and floated across the screen when we touched them. This made X-man giggle with delight. We followed the story from A to Z, laughing at all the silly rhymes. It didn’t take long for X-man to push my fingers aside to use his own fingers to interact with the story.
We had the most fun creating our very own Bob and Larry’s ABC’s story using the create mode. The create mode lets users change letter fonts (reinforcing sight and sound associations), and kids can type in their own words, which helps stimulate their imaginations as they learn the alphabet.
What makes Veggietales Bob and Larry’s ABC’s even more fun is that, once you create your story, you can then share it with friends and family via email, Facebook or Twitter. What grandparent wouldn’t love to receive a cute Veggietales story from their grandchild? It’s guaranteed to bring a smile to their face.
Sharing your child’s own Veggietales story creation is super easy! Once you’ve finished creating your story, you will be prompted to share it via Facebook, Twitter or Email. We chose to send ours via email to my own email to test it out. We typed in our title for our story, typed in the Author name, and clicked on “Send Email”. A message popped up saying “For grown-ups – Swipe down with 3 fingers to continue”. So I swiped with three fingers and up popped my email program, all ready for me to fill in the email address of the recipient (me), and hit send. That’s it! So easy! I received an email immediately, containing the link to our very own Veggietales Bob and Larry’s ABC’s story. Here’s what we got when we clicked on the link in our email:
See the white arrows? All the recipient needs to do is click on those to read the story. Very simple for the reader to use. The recipient can even download their own Bob and Larry’s ABC app to their iPad right from this page.
I like the fact that, once you create your own Veggietales stories, you can store them on your very own virtual bookshelf.
Please note that it is my opinion that Veggietales Bob and Larry’s ABC’s is best suited to younger children ages 4-6. X-man is turning 8 years old soon, and while he loved this app the first time around, after he created his first story, he soon tired of it. He was not interested in trying it a second time. X-man already knows his alphabet, and uses “more complex” games on the iPad. Bob and Larry’s ABC’s is not advanced enough to keep X-man’s interest for long. I’m betting that the 4-6 age set would love this Veggietales app though.
