Whether you love him or despise him (I don’t like to use that “H” word), social media lovers, specifically Twitter users, are fascinated with the Twitter feed of President-Elect Donald Trump.
Since he announced his candidacy for President of the United States, I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve seen a tweet from President-Elect Trump’s Twitter account mentioned in the mainstream media news.
No matter what you think of his tweets, you have to admit they are “interesting”.
But they weren’t always. In fact, in the beginning, they used to be downright boring.
Comedian David Letterman was the subject of President-Elect Trump’s very first tweet…
It was President-Elect Trump who inspired this post after I happened upon a website that allows you to discover your first tweet.
The majority of first tweets I’ve read are not terribly profound. In fact, I’ve happened upon many first tweets in my Twitter feed that simply say “My first tweet!”.

So, besides President-Elect Trump, I became curious to find out what some of Twitter’s most interesting, or top Tweeters, had to say for their very first tweet.
Starting with Ms. Kardashian West:
Gone are the days when simply stating “this is the real me” proved that it was actually the real celebrity behind a Twitter handle. Now we all look for that little blue verified symbol to prove an account isn’t a fake. Thank goodness, back in 2009, Kim clarified things for us. I sure wouldn’t want to follow a fake Kim Kardashian West!
I have to admit, the next first tweet makes me jealous. All Taylor Swift has to do is tweet about how much her cat missed her while she was gone…and this tweet gets TWELVE THOUSAND RETWEETS!
I’ll have to try this Twitter tactic with my dogs. They are very needy and…heck…they miss me after I’ve been gone only 5 minutes!
Then there’s poor Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who could only muster up 15 retweets and 41 likes with his first tweet:
We have to give Justin credit though. He was an early adopter of Twitter (2008). He must have had a vision. He knew Twitter was going places!
Yes, this first tweet makes me a little sad since we lost David Bowie in 2016:
What a guy. Also a Twitter pioneer, Bowie made his first tweet all about his friend, musician Mike Garson, joining Twitter.
Canadian Commander Chris Hadfield, a huge Bowie fan, foreshadowed things to come with his first tweet:
Ground control to Major Tom! Commander Hadfield’s tweets reached new heights – literally – when he took Twitter, and his followers, into outer space with him in 2013.
And speaking of space heroes, William Shatner, aka Captain Kirk, was also an early Twitter adopter:
Mr. Shatner, I am glad you learned about this fascinating site. Apparently, so are 2.4 million other people! We all thank you for boldly going where few others did in 2008!
Actress and funny lady, Betty White, made one of my favourite first tweets:
Always a clever lady, Betty, unlike most of us, clearly put some thought into her first tweet! We are very glad it happened, Betty!
And while this first tweet also makes me a little sad, it’s a great one:
I think this one deserved more than one like, don’t you?
As a long-time Hip fan, I adore the fact that the Tragically Hip embraced Twitter…and that they follow Canadian Blog House! I only wish I could look forward to seeing more tweets, like their first one, in their Twitter feed now:
And finally, here is my first tweet. Hard to believe I’ve been on Twitter for 7 1/2 years! I jumped on Twitter long before creating Canadian Blog House.
Although not earth-shattering, or life-changing, my first tweet is a rather fitting one that started things off with some great Canadian content:
I’m glad I looked up my first tweet. It reminded me of this Sled Dogs song I used to love…and still do…
Yes, I was an early bird on Twitter.
But I cry fowl!
Ever the Twitter “trend”setter, President-Elect Trump signed up for Twitter over a month before me.
So when it comes to first tweets, I was trumped by Trump!
Cluck you, Mr. Trump, for stealing the feather in my Twitter cap!
